“Be great, make a difference, leave an impact!” – My Dad
As I finish one job at work and start another, I’m left with some deep thoughts and forward looking ambitions. People change jobs all the time. In an era where the “the Four Year Career” is the new normal, how can we grow fast enough each time to make a substantial difference. I’m about to find out how I did in my quick 2 year career in home energy efficiency.
Over the Holidays, my father got sicker and passed away on New Year’s Day. His era ended, but he got this year off to a great, new start – RIP.
My father was a great man and I had the honor of giving his eulogy. His three messages in life were to be great at something, make a difference, and leave an impact.
This has always been my mantra, and now I get a year to do all three at once in the midst of starting, finishing and starting again. Watch me go dad.
Prepare for Blast Off! – Countdown is on.
This year I am starting a new job at work. I am also finishing a job at work, and carrying forward other projects in my annual quest to make the biggest difference.
In the “four year career” cycle, chaos rules and the inevitability of a finite opportunity to stand out is real. It will paralyze many, but hopefully ignite some to rise to the moment, be great and leave an impact.
My yearly countdown is on. I’m sure to be working overtime and traveling to and fro in my quest to make a difference.
What an opportunity! All at once, and all now. Can it get any better than this? Thank God the sky is still the limit in America, or can we go even higher? Boarding has begun. Fasten your seat belts.
Happy New Year! Start, Finish and Start Again.
